About UsWe were born and raised in the States (Peter in Washington and Katie in Minnesota), but God gave us each a big heart for Africa. He called us to Africa separately, and when we met, it didn't take long to realize that could make a great team! We also both studied environmental science at Western Washington University, and we are passionate about where caring for God's creation intersects with caring for the poor.
We have been married for 5 years and we have a baby girl named Riley who was born in Zimbabwe. We worked in Mozambique from 2017-2019, and now we're back in the States for 6 months before we return to Africa. When we head back, we plan on moving to Zimbabwe to continue teaching Foundations for Farming, a biblically-based agricultural method that shares the gospel and helps the poor make a profit. Our MinistryWe're a part of TEAM (The Evangelical Alliance Mission), a non-denominational mission organization that helps churches send missionaries where the most people have the greatest need, making disciples and planting reproducing churches to the glory of God.
We also partner with a Zimbabwean-based organization called Foundations for Farming. The Foundations for Farming agricultural methods that we teach introduce the gospel while effectively dealing with common causes of poor stewardship of the land and resulting low crop yields in sub-Saharan Africa. In addition to sharing the gospel at each training, there are four main principles that we focus on: 1. Farming on time (planning ahead and planting at the proper time) 2. Working at a high standard (without taking shortcuts and being honest) 3. Without waste (not wasting time, soil, water, sunlight, nutrients, energy, etc.) 4. With joy (being thankful for what God has given you and trusting that he will provide for you). These principles help farmers steward and maximize their resources, while also addressing prevalent cultural and spiritual issues. No expensive equipment or inputs are required, so the method is accessible to the poor. Anyone with a hoe can be the best farmer in the world! |
